Terms of Service

Last updated August 2026. Please read this before creating an account.

1. What Sand & Steel is

Sand & Steel is a fan-made, non-commercial private server for a well-known 2005-era MMORPG ("the game"). We are not the developer or publisher of the game, we do not own or claim any rights to its client, artwork, or intellectual property, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Joymax Co., Ltd. or any of its licensees in any way.

What is ours: the server software this project runs on — the backend, the game world logic, and this website — which was built independently, from scratch, as a clean-room implementation. No code from the original game server was copied, decompiled output was used only as a factual reference for network protocol compatibility, never reproduced.

2. Eligibility

You must be able to lawfully enter into these terms in your jurisdiction to create an account. If local law sets a minimum age for agreeing to online terms of service, you confirm you meet it.

3. Your account

You are responsible for the credentials and any wallet you use to access your account, and for everything that happens under it. Do not share your login with anyone. If you use a wallet to sign in, you are responsible for keeping control of that wallet — we cannot recover it for you if it's lost.

We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms, exploits bugs for unfair advantage, engages in real-money trading outside any mechanism we explicitly provide, abuses other players, or attempts to disrupt the service.

4. Service availability

Sand & Steel is currently in open beta. We do not guarantee uptime, data permanence, or that any given feature will remain unchanged — beta means things move, and sometimes break, while we fix them. We'll always try to give notice before anything that resets or significantly affects character progress.

5. No warranty

This is a fan project, run without a commercial support structure. The service is provided "as is," with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses arising from your use of the service, including lost progress, items, or virtual currency.

6. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the project evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date at the top of the page. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the update.

7. Contact

Questions about these terms can be raised through the support page.
